Every employee is different and will need an individual solution.\u201d<br \/><\/i><span style=\"font-style: inherit; background-color: var( --e-global-color-astglobalcolor4 ); color: var(--ast-global-color-3);\"><b>Diversity Manager<\/b><\/span><\/h5><\/div><p>Flexible working has certainly been proven to benefit employers in particular through cost savings and increased employee retention. It is the key to ensuring that employees with caring responsibilities can work and continue to be effective in the workplace. It can provide mechanisms for all employees to balance work and life, but it can be specifically beneficial for those employees who are carers.<\/p><p>As of 6 April 2024 every employee in England, Scotland and Wales has the statutory right to request flexible working from their first day of employment. \u00a0This law change also sees employees able to make up to\u00a0<strong>two requests<\/strong>\u00a0in a year and any request granted will mean a permanent change to terms and conditions unless a trial period is agreed or a time-limited change.<\/p><p>Employers are now required to\u00a0<strong>consult<\/strong>\u00a0with an employee before rejecting a flexible working request and there is a\u00a0<strong>reduced waiting time<\/strong>\u00a0for decisions to be made (for the employer to administer the statutory request) from three months to\u00a0<strong>two months<\/strong>.<\/p><p>For more information on the right to request flexible working download our guide Supporting working carers: A guide to requesting flexible working or view our section on employees\u2019 rights <a href=\"https:\/\/efcdigitalwales.org\/cy\/the-law\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p><p><b>Flexible adjustments can include:<\/b><\/p><ul><li>Flexible starting and finishing times.<\/li><li>Compressed working hours.<\/li><li>Annualised working hours.<\/li><li>Shift-swapping and self-rostering.<\/li><li>Job sharing or part-time working.<\/li><li>Home-working and remote working.<\/li><li>Term-time working.<\/li><li>Flexible holidays to fit in with alternative care arrangements.<\/li><\/ul><p>These benefits support carers by addressing their individual situations rather than labelling them as people who need extra help or who have problems.
